Integrated Rice-Based Shrimp and Crabs Farming: Adaptation to Climate Change and Potential Mitigation of Global Warming in the Coastal Wetlands of Bangladesh

Coastal agriculture is vulnerable to climate change, thereby may affect food production systems and security in Bangladesh. Methane (CH4) emission from coastal wetlands rice farming a major environmental concern due its global warming potential. Therefore, field experiments were conducted at the southern region of Shyamnagar, Satkhira, investigate feasibility Rice-Shrimp Rice-Crabs mixed for adaptation changing sustaining system. The experimental treatments designed on rice-based diversified such as sole cropping with no NPKS + soil amendments (T1), following farmers’ practice (FP) without amendment (T2), FP phosphogypsum (PG) (T3), culture PG (T4), (T5), Spirulina (Cyanobacteria) inoculation (T6), (T7). A closed chamber technique was followed collect gas samples paddy analyzed by Gas Chromatograph. It found that (T6) (T7) practices significantly decreased GWPs compared In dry boro season, maximum 4175 kg CO2 eq. ha-1 recorded which 30% 36.7% under practices, respectively. Furthermore, wet aman GWP 4525 33.0% 38.8% farming, Rice grain yield low (3500 kg/ha), increased 11.0% 14.7% amended during seasons, postharvest properties, organic matter content, redox potential value (Eh), exchangeable K+ Ca2+, contents Phosphogypsum applications, however, Na+ content electrical conductivity (EC) eventually improved plants’ tolerance salinity enhanced overall productivity farming. Conclusively, conversion wetland mono into would be feasible strategy sustain aquaculture-based ensure mitigate ecosystem.
